On the occasion of the Solidarity Week in Nice, a time for meeting and sharing is organized by the city of Nice, its Communal Center for Social Action, and the actors working to combat exclusion.

On October 17, 1987, in response to the call of Father Joseph Wresinski (a French diocesan priest and founder of the Human Rights Movement ATD Fourth World), 100,000 people gathered at the Trocadรฉro Plaza in Paris to express their rejection of poverty and exclusion. Thus, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was born.

Call of Father Joseph Wresinski: โ€œWherever men are condemned to live in poverty, human rights are violated. It is a sacred duty to unite to ensure they are respected.โ€

Over the years, this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has become a time for meeting and sharing in Nice.

An opportunity for the general public to hear the voices of people living in extreme poverty, to reflect on the commitments we all can make as citizens to reject poverty, to demonstrate our solidarity and commitment to ensuring the dignity and freedom of all are respected.

Punctuated by songs, testimonies, and poems, this time of sharing aims to gather all those who wish to commit to supporting the most disadvantaged. On this occasion, tribute will be paid to those who died on the streets during the year. Admission is free.
