“Reinventing cities” is the new trend in major urban areas that require change and innovation to meet the needs of citizens and align with a modern vision of today’s and tomorrow’s urban life.

Since his election as Mayor of Nice in 2008 and subsequently as head of the Mรฉtropole in 2012, Christian Estrosi has continuously initiated changes. With significant urban development works in the western districts and investments to transform the Moulins district from a “ghetto” to a popular neighborhood, it’s now the turn of sports facilities to receive a substantial facelift.

“As part of the Moulins urban renewal program, the western area of Nice will see the development of its local facilities. With the development of the future Sports City, which will extend from the Charles Ehrmann Sports Park to the Arboras complex, a whole new range of socio-cultural facilities and a restructuring of spaces dedicated to sports will be developed for the district,” stated Christian Estrosi during the presentation of the master plan.

“With this nearly 6 million euro project, which will be delivered in September 2022 without any interruption in activities, we will expand the offering by modernizing it significantly with facilities all served by the tramway and remaining within the neighborhood,”
the Mayor of Nice further clarified, in the presence of representatives from local sports associations.

A new 1,000m2 complex will include:

  • 1 Dojo
  • 1 multipurpose room (dance/fitness)
  • 1 weight training/cardio room for women weightlifters
  • 1 Baby gym room
  • 1 cycling room
  • Spaces for changing rooms, offices, and storage.

For indoor activities, a modular structure will be installed to host all sports activities on a plot currently accommodating four associations in old prefabs, which will be relocated under better conditions.

The outdoor activities of the Mercantour complex will be repositioned on an 8,000m2 field, which will host:

  • 3 tennis courts
  • 2 padel courts
  • 1 basketball court
  • 2 Foot5 courts
  • 2 squash courts
All while retaining the StreetPark Malang Sarr.
