Reactions:

Benjamin Landier (silver medal, Para-Athlete category):
“This award gives me even more pleasure because I learned this afternoon about my selection for the French team for the World Track Championships. Although the most important thing for me remains my preparation for the competition, being recognized by the people of Nice gives me great joy.”

Magali Reymonenq (bronze medal, Female Athlete category):
“I am very happy. I see this as recognition, an acknowledgment of everything I’ve done throughout my career, especially the 11 years spent on the French team. I thank everyone who voted for me, the people of Nice online, the journalists. It brings me great joy.”

David Casteu (bronze medal, Male Athlete category):
“It was a magical evening. I am very proud to be part of this list of winners. I was very surprised to be nominated and even more to be on the podium because the world of rallying is highly criticized. They say the races pollute the environment, pose a danger to the people along the route. But I believe that through these races, we introduce spectators to new horizons. We let them live a dream. I consider myself a dream-maker.”

Gilles Veissières (Deputy Mayor for Sports of the city of Nice):
“2010 was truly an excellent year for sports in Nice. Seeing around 300 athletes who were awarded tonight, athletes who have all obtained elite titles, one could say that this could make many other cities in France envious.”

Christophe Josse (Sports commentator on Canal+ and presenter of the Victoires du Sport ceremony):
“I found the ceremony very pleasant. I was surprised by the scale of Nice’s sports results in 2010. It is obviously one of the largest cities in France. It also has the enormous geographical advantage of being located between the sea and the mountains. But I believe it is mainly the political will of the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who is also a former high-level athlete, to develop the infrastructure that makes the difference. It is a very healthy development.”
