It’s now official, Théo Pourchaire will be in Endurance racing in 2025. He will be a test and development driver for Peugeot, in hypercar.
It was only a matter of time since his test with Peugeot TotalEnergies on November 3rd, Théo Pourchaire will indeed be in Endurance racing with the same team. Appointed as a test and development driver, he will mainly focus on developing and preparing the Peugeot 9X8 for the next season. He will be in a third driver role, similar to what he did this year with the Stake F1 Team in Formula 1. The driver from Grasse will carry out all private circuit tests, helping him familiarize himself with a hypercar. If any of the main drivers are unable to race on one of the race weekends, he would also be the one to take the wheel.
Oliver Jansonnie, technical director of Peugeot Sport, is delighted to welcome the young driver to his team: “During the rookie test in Bahrain, Théo showed a lot of potential and demonstrated a detailed understanding of our car. He brings a new perspective thanks to his single-seater experience, which is a real asset for the development of our program. We are eager to work with him and integrate him into the team.“
Théo Pourchaire, on his part, is very eager to start this new chapter: “I am very excited to join Peugeot Sport as a development driver for the next season, it’s an incredible opportunity. I see this as a new beginning since Endurance racing is a new challenge for me […] Hypercars are very advanced and at the cutting edge of technology, making them similar to a Formula 1. Being a test driver is a wonderful opportunity and I am grateful that Team Peugeot TotalEnergies is giving me this chance. I can’t wait to start this new role.”
And what next?
While the driver from Grasse can be pleased with this opportunity for 2025, he is not left without a seat. However, he mentioned at the end of his announcement on the social network X that “news is coming soon”.
This suggests that the driver from the Maritime Alps might have a second seat in another category next season.
It’s also important to remember that Peugeot TotalEnergies gives their development drivers a chance. Like Malthe Jakobsen, a former development driver in 2024, who was given a main seat for 2025. If Théo Pourchaire does a good job, there is no doubt that he will also have his chance.
