Théo Pourchaire will participate in the Formula E free practice session reserved for rookies with Maserati MSG Racing. This session will take place on Thursday, February 13, before the Jeddah E-Prix rounds on February 14 and 15.
Maserati, competing in Formula E under the Stellantis banner, has chosen Théo Pourchaire for this 40-minute session. The Frenchman, Formula 2 champion in 2023 and reserve driver for Peugeot in WEC, will take the wheel of the Monégasque team’s single-seater vehicle.
Without a single-seater program this season, Théo Pourchaire will seize this new opportunity to discover a different environment. “I am really proud to have this opportunity with Maserati MSG Racing. I also really like working with new people; everyone has welcomed me very well so far,” the Grassois joyfully states. He adds: “This will be the first time I drive a Formula E car during a race weekend, and I can’t wait to be on the Jeddah circuit, to be in the car, and to work with the team on-site.”
The Jeddah circuit is not unfamiliar to him. The Maralpin has raced there three times in Formula 2, but with a different configuration and single-seater. Théo Pourchaire hopes that this experience will make adaptation easier for him. “Overall, I am eager to get on track, to show what I can do, to help the team, and hopefully to have fun,” he concludes.
A New Path for Théo Pourchaire?
Despite several tests in Formula E, Théo Pourchaire has never raced in this discipline. However, he participated in development tests for the Gen3 single-seater. Cyril Blais, director of Maserati MSG Racing, sees him as a promising driver. “Théo is an incredibly talented driver, and we have followed his career closely over the past years. He has proven his speed and adaptability in numerous disciplines,” he explains.
After three seasons in Formula 2, the Azuréen driver experienced a turbulent 2024 year. Initially engaged in Super Formula, he joined McLaren in IndyCar before being dropped. His test in WEC with Peugeot allowed him to rebound, but his future remains uncertain. An engagement in Formula E could be an option.
