On May 20th, the opening of the exhibition “Naïve… Did You Say Naïve?” will take place at the cultural center of Théoule-sur-mer at 6:30 PM.
Often inspired by popular imagery, the so-called “naïve” artist develops their own expression with their own logic. These paintings, executed with enthusiasm and spontaneity, lead the painter, in the calm of their studio, to make us rediscover celebrations, traditions, memories of the past or our childhood, or the exploration of an imaginary world. This is how some artists choose a certain form of realism while others escape to elsewhere.
The “naïve style” painting, due to its attention to detail, tells a story. With a nostalgic spirit for many of them, contemporary for some, or timeless for others, they testify to nature, architecture, rural scenes, picturesque villages, lively markets, and vibrant human, plant, and animal worlds.
These works take us through the seasons, on playful, magical walks or into a world where frivolity harmonizes with the joy of living. Some artists subtly exalt their storytelling talent, stage picturesque subjects in an enchanted universe with humor or irony, while others lead us through somewhat mysterious lands. It is this freedom that gives their art its charm.
Artists from France and abroad will have the opportunity to present their own personal exhibitions consisting of a certain number of works (10 or more)…
The PACA region will be represented by three artists well known to enthusiasts of naïve art:
Martine GUIN-GUAND from the Côte d’Azur,
Sylvie MARCEL from the Bouches du Rhône,
Alain DONNAT from the Var.
