Thiers Station continues its makeover to rise to the challenge of being a European city.

Christian Estrosi is at his best in the role of a builder, and at the moment, he is rediscovering his passion. He wants to shape the city his way, and project after project, things have moved and continue to move… Who could complain?

This time, it is the SNCF Thiers station and its surroundings that are concerned.

And so much the better! Instead of a station that was far from national and international standards, the people of Nice will have (at the end of 2017-beginning of 2018) a complex that will include the railway part (this being the main priority) and a gallery of shops and services, spaces for strolling, and a passage that will also open the station to the north, ending a sort of boundary between the two sides, north/south. The program is being finalized and will cover nearly 15,000 m² of floor space.

The layout of this area (The 9 old shops have been demolished) is the second part of the prospective development of the Masséna-Ray axis, which includes, in addition to the Thiers Station program, the completion of the Gare du Sud and the future project of the old Ray stadium.

For Christian Estrosi: “Mobility is a major challenge for our territory and our railway network is not suited to the needs and has lacked investments.”

As a reminder, on Friday, May 9, Frédéric Cuvillier, Secretary of State for Transport, announced that he was accelerating the implementation of the railway project concerning the realization of a new line on the “Cannes-Grasse / Nice” section, among the first priorities of the State.

This new line, once completed, will allow the new Saint-Augustin station in the Ecovallée to be connected to Sophia Antipolis Les Bréguières in 7 minutes! This project involves 24 km of new line, including 20 km in a tunnel.

Returning to the Thiers Station hub, the mayor of Nice recalls that “The current under-sized and poorly configured station, with 7 million travelers per year, will become a station worthy of the 5th city in France and our territory of attractiveness, with a forecast of + 11 million travelers in 2020″.
