The Nice Cinematheque is offering an exceptional masterclass this Friday, December 8, with actress Andrรฉa Ferrรฉol.
The actress of the cult film La Grande Bouffe, Andrรฉa Fรฉrrรฉol, will share her experience with the audience at the Nice Cinematheque this Friday at 6:45 PM. A French actress, she performs in numerous theater productions and appears both on the small and big screens.
She has over 100 films and 80 TV movies to her credit. She can boast of having worked throughout her career with renowned directors such as Franรงois Truffaut, Peter Greenaway, Mario Monicelli, and Luigi Comencini.
Vincent Jourdan, an author and a lecturer specializing in cinema, will host this event. On the occasion of the actress’s visit, the most legendary film of her career will be screened. La Grande Bouffe is a Franco-Italian feature film directed by Marco Ferreri in 1973.
La Grande Bouffe, from Controversy to Success
Before becoming a cult classic, the film sparked controversy from its screening at the 26th Cannes Film Festival, where it was presented in competition. And with good reason, it tells the story of a group of friends who decide to lock themselves in a Parisian villa in the middle of winter for what they call a “gastronomic seminar.” The four men then proceed to a collective suicide by eating themselves to death.
This provocative sociological fable seeks to denounce consumerism at the end of the post-war economic boom in France. At the start of her career, the young actress shared the screen with four actors already recognized in the cinema world: Marcello Mastroianni, Philippe Noiret, Michel Piccoli, and Ugo Tognazzi.
To extend this moment, a selection of films featuring Andrรฉa Ferrรฉol is also available on the Nice Cinematheque’s online platform.
