On the occasion of the bicentenary of Napoleon’s death and the 100th anniversary of the Massena Museum, an exhibition pays tribute to personalities from the world of culture, media, and diplomacy from October 31 to January 9, 2022.


“In this year 2021, when we commemorate the bicentenary of the death of Napoleon I and on the occasion of the Imperial Days, I wanted, in agreement with the Napoleon Foundation, to present an original exhibition at the Massรฉna Museum entitled โ€˜Napoleon, Hero of Literatureโ€™,” announced Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice.

In tribute to Napoleon I, events are organized on October 30 and 31, 2021. The program includes screenings, round tables, exhibitions, and concerts.

Saturday, October 30

At 10 a.m., the Massena Museum inaugurates the exhibition “Napoleon, Hero of Literature,” which will be displayed in the galleries until January 9, 2022.

At 10:30 a.m., the Imperial Days will begin in the presence of Christian Estrosi. They will be followed by a recital by Augustin Bastiรฉ at 11:30 a.m.

From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., a General Staff conference in the presence of the Emperor will take place.

In the garden, Massรฉna hosts parades, maneuvers, and shooting demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additionally, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., a military review with drums and fifes will occur.

At the Mediterranean University Center, on Saturday, October 30, three round tables are organized and moderated by Patrice Zehr, with the themes “Napoleon as a Historical Hero” at 2:15 p.m., “Napoleon as a Fictional Hero” at 3:30 p.m., and “Napoleon as a Political Hero” at 4:45 p.m.

Sunday, October 31

If weather conditions permit, a musical procession is planned from Garibaldi Square to the bandstand in Albert 1er Park.

At 2 p.m., Ridley Scott’s film “The Dualists” will be screened at the Nice cinematheque.

Finally, to close the imperial weekend, the show “The Return of Nice to France” will take place at the Mediterranean University Center.

A word to the wise: these events are an opportunity to discover or rediscover Napoleon I. Admission is free within the limits of available seats, and a health pass is required.
