A new contingent of migrants from the Vallée de la Roya arrived in Nice yesterday to submit asylum applications.
Leading the group were activists from the Roya Citoyenne and Tous Citoyens! associations and, of course, the so-called Gandhi of the Roya, Cédric Herrou, always present whenever there’s a microphone or camera!
In fact, the supporters of the migrants are calling for the creation of a reception center so their protégés can be housed while awaiting the administrative procedures to take their course.
To date, there has been no response from the Prefecture, which must consider the opposition from local officials all aligned with a hardline stance. In the face of this silence, the protesting organizations are now demanding the appointment of a mediator.
The ostrich policy does not seem to be effective because border checks do not prevent the transit of migrants, thanks to smuggling networks and the activity of humanitarian workers, their unintended allies!
Moreover, one should wonder where the migrants go once their administrative applications are completed. Do they return to the Roya? Certainly not…
Almost certainly, they join the ranks of clandestine travelers moving across France and Europe as well.
To say that this is not the best approach to at least confront, without having the ambition to solve, a problem of our time… the facts themselves attest to and demonstrate this.
Then, if complexity is compounded by the presence of figures like Cédric Herrou, who have grown fond of the role of humanity’s savior… we go nowhere.
