Yet another and possibly final attempt to block the demolition of the current headquarters of the TNN building was not as successful as its supporters had hoped.
On Tuesday, March 29, the Administrative Court of Nice decided to reject the appeal filed by Philippe Vardon, Jean Moucheboeuf, Thierry Venem (municipal councilors from the National Rally party), and the association Retrouver Nice against the demolition permit for the TNN granted by the mayor of Nice, on the grounds “that the applicants do not demonstrate an interest justifying their standing to request the annulment of the contested demolition permit.”
The court had already dismissed a similar initiative by the Association for the Defense of the Promenade des Arts-Yves Bayard (behind which the political presence of Eric Ciotti was known) and Mrs. Martine Bayard (daughter of the designing and constructing architect) against the Nice municipal council’s decision allowing this demolition.
Despite this setback, the promoting councilors have no intention of giving up: in a statement, they claim to be the “only ones who attempted to bring the matter before the courts” and announce that they “will continue their action through all possible means to prevent this harm to the heritage of the people of Nice and the balances within our city.”
In the meantime, the demolition work continues, and the TNN’s artistic program will take place in other venues.
