TNN: The architect from Bâtiments de France has given approval for its demolition.

Opponents’ initiatives against the demolition of the TNN, decided by the majority of the Nice Municipal Council, whether it be the request from Deputy Eric Ciotti to classify it as a historical monument, the petition by former socialist representative Patrick Allemand, the counter-project by the local opposition group EE-LV, or the actions of the RN group, will end in nothing. This comes after information that the architect from the French heritage organization has confirmed the previous authorization from the Ministry of Culture, describing it as a “beneficial process of restoration.”

It’s a knockout blow for the opponents, who had planned to meet this Thursday to publicly revisit the issue and push their perspective.

“The demolition of the TNN is part of this dynamic of rediscovering the architectural, urban, and landscape roots that make Nice a Riviera resort city, where the elegance of the architecture and the refinement of the urban design are matched only by the exuberance of the parks and gardens,” writes the French heritage architect.

He explains that the “accuracy” and “sustainability” of the building envisioned by Yves Bayard depend “on decisions and choices that are irreversibly external to it,” namely “urban planning” and “urban design, whose stakes far exceed those carried by architecture.”

According to the French heritage architect, the TNN was built at a time when there were “wrong questions concerning urban planning” and when “the search for ease took precedence over that of sustainability.”

The destruction of this building is thus the logical continuation of other demolitions carried out in the city of Nice, such as the bus station, the shopping arcade… These all initiated “a beneficial process of restoration” that allowed Nice to enter the UNESCO World Heritage list.
