On Thursday, February 24, the city of Nice and the Life Terra foundation joined forces to combat climate change by planting 29 trees.
At the corner of Rue Dabray and Passage Cognet, 29 trees have been planted symbolically to seal the brand-new alliance between the city and the foundation.
Last September, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, made several commitments to fight against climate change. Among them was his pledge to plant one tree per resident by 2026 (the city currently has one tree for every five residents).
For its part, Life Terra, a foundation supported by the European Life program, which works in favor of nature and the environment, shares the same commitment. It aims to plant one tree per European in Europe by 2025.
Since their ambitions aligned, they naturally partnered, with the city becoming the first community to join the Life Terra European network. The foundation has committed to providing, planting, and maintaining 10,000 trees for the city of Nice.
Yesterday, eight young women members of the European Leadership Academy, selected from various European countries, planted these 29 trees. The plot chosen for the planting belongs to the city of Nice. Before the trees, there were several garbage containers, and the area quickly became a public dump. Consequently, the city decided to clear the space, put up a fence to protect it, and add soil and trees.
Maty Diouf, deputy mayor in charge of the fight against discrimination, women’s rights, humanitarian actions, and international solidarity, was present on Thursday, February 24.
