With this exhibition, François Mauplot offers a new perspective on prehistoric stone tools. These portraits of objects crafted over 400,000 years ago provide an objective view of what they are. His photographs resemble scientific drawings and allow us to see these objects from another time in a different light.

The manipulation of light reveals the textures, fractures, shapes of the tools. His sensitive photographic portraits in black and white and the drawings of “crafted stones,” all from the Terra Amata site (choppers, chopping-tools, bifaces, hand axes, etc.), together reveal a formal, very modern aesthetic.
