After an uneven but overall stable July compared to last year, with good attendance thanks notably to the Tour de France and numerous festivals, August 15th once again marked one of the highlights of tourism on the French Riviera.
Competition is particularly tough this year since the French Riviera has not had the monopoly on sunshine, and while countries in the southern Mediterranean are suffering from a difficult political situation, Croatia and Greece have been very attractive destinations this summer.
On the Riviera, a last-minute influx filled almost all the hotels, despite a decrease in traditionally strong Italian clientele during this period.
The Hinterland also benefits from this good attendance while the rest of the summer is rather in decline there.
As usual, nationalities are diverse with a predominance of British and Scandinavian visitors, but other nationalities are represented from Americans to Russians, including Japanese, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, etc.: it’s an asset to have a mix of nationalities.
For Michel Tschann, president of the Nice and Côte d’Azur Hotel Union: “September is looking good, especially in Nice, due to the Francophonie Games and numerous congresses.
More than ever, the goal is for our clients to be happy, safe, and thus contribute to maintaining our destination—from the hinterland to the coastline—as one of the world’s major destinations with immediate consequences for employment.”
