“Tous Citoyens” protests against the non-appointment of Lucie Castets to Matignon

Latest News

This afternoon, around a hundred citizens gathered at Place Garibaldi in Nice, at the call of the association “Tous Citoyens.” The goal? To defend and uphold universal suffrage. Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets (New Popular Front) as Prime Minister has crystallized this deep indignation.

In the late afternoon, Nice resonated with the rhythm of citizen protest. A hundred people, braving the summer heat, gathered at Place Garibaldi. The crowd was diverse, united by the same will: to respect their vote following the last legislative elections, and thereby uphold universal suffrage.

A multi-party mobilization

The association “Tous Citoyens” is behind this mobilization. “It was important for all of us to gather this evening, to fight against the denial of democracy imposed on us by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron,” said David Nakache, president of the association.

Also present were all the forces of the New Popular Front, notably Olivier Salerno, a former candidate in Nice’s first constituency against ร‰ric Ciotti. He denounces the fact that “Emmanuel Macron refuses a government of the New Popular Front. According to Macron, no one won except that he himself lost.

A strong demand

The signs, held high, expressed clear and unambiguous messages. “Democracy is only when it suits them. Macron, respect my vote!”, read Magalie’s sign. “I will continue to demonstrate because this guy doesnโ€™t listen to us. I am disgusted because this is not the first time. Itโ€™s a general exasperation. I am a member of the French Artists’ Syndicate, and I refuse the 2025 budget. We talk about a resigning government that continues to manage everything, she exclaimed.

A national reaction expected

This demonstration is not an isolated event. It is part of a wider movement of protest that is beginning to take shape across the country. Everywhere, voices are rising to denounce what is perceived as a “denial of democracy”. A call for a “demonstration against Emmanuel Macron’s autocracy” has been launched for September 7 by the Student Union and the High School Student Union, already joined by La France Insoumise but not by the Socialist Party.
