Towns and Villages in Bloom: Ilonse, Roquebillière, Saint-Martin-sur-Var on the podium

The departmental competition, organized by the Department of Alpes-Maritimes and the CRT Côte d’Azur, constitutes the first level of the competition. It aims to highlight the commitment of the most deserving municipalities, which contribute concretely to the quality of life of their inhabitants, as well as to the quality of tourist hospitality in the Alpes-Maritimes.

According to Eric Ciotti, president of the CD 06: “Our department has 48 out of 163 municipalities labeled from one to four flowers, including both renowned tourist towns and resorts, as well as charming small towns and villages of the middle and upper country.”

With more than 50 years of history, the national Villes et Villages Fleuris label rewards the efforts and achievements of municipalities in beautifying the living environment, flower displays, and environmental activities.

Today, it allows more than 4,000 labeled French communes to highlight their efforts in developing and enhancing their territories.

The Villes & Villages Fleuris label has clearly evolved over the last 10 years, far exceeding the simple notion of the aesthetic quality of flower displays, to place significant importance on how a municipality organizes, manages, and enhances its spaces.

The jury now evaluates municipal policy in the broadest sense according to three key axes: landscape and plant heritage (green spaces, tree heritage, flower displays…); living environment (water management, sensible use of chemicals, cleanliness, waste sorting, built heritage, urban furniture, signage, networks…); animation and tourist promotion (signage, resident participation, educational awareness actions, tourist hospitality…).

In 2014, 15 municipalities registered and 12 were rewarded.

In the 1st “mountain” Category: municipalities with less than 1,000 inhabitants (11 municipalities registered):
