Florence Laplane and Nadรจge Bonfils, on behalf of the Citizen Audit Collective of Nice’s debt, and Jean-Christophe Picard, on behalf of Anticor 06, have officially called on Christian Estrosi to file a claim against the toxic loans contracted by the city of Nice with Dexia, mainly on the basis of the bank’s failure to fulfill its obligations of information, advice, and warning. A good opportunity to save money?

In order to meet the deadlines (the legal deadline is set for June 17, 2013), the signatories request that this issue be addressed in the next municipal council meeting. Emmanuelle Gaziello (PCF), Mari-Luz Hernandez-Nicaise (EELV), and Yann Librati (PS) have already pledged to support this initiative.
According to Anticor, 66 local authorities currently have ongoing lawsuits with Dexia and the legal precedents seem more than favorable. Thus, the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Nanterre replaced, on February 8, 2013, the exorbitant rates of three loan contracts with the legal interest rate (0.71%) due to a lack of information.
The Paris Court of Appeal authorized, on July 4, 2012, the suspension of payment of interest on toxic loans after noting that the loans concerned were in violation of “the prohibition for these local authorities from entering into speculative contracts.”
Ultimately, saving money from a bank would be a fitting turn of events but, more importantly, it proves that the left and the right can undoubtedly collaborate and work “intelligently” for the benefit of a community and a territory.
