Trachel Street Project: Jacques Peyrat Stirs Up Controversy!

Latest News

The Trachel Street project undoubtedly continues to make headlines.
Following the reaction of the residents of the condemned buildings, the local residents, and other sympathizers, as well as the support of the opposition political forces, it is now the former mayor’s turn to enter the scene to express his opposition in his typical manner: uncompromisingly.

While awaiting the results of the public inquiry and the final decisions from the Mayor, who has mastery of this file, the mobilization remains as strong as ever on the Trachel side. It is through the communiquรฉ below that Jacques Peyrat wished to express his opinion on the matter.

A new completely delusional project โ€ฆ.

At the end of last year, Mayor Estrosi presented the development plan for Trachel Street.

While this neighborhood in Nice clearly needed redevelopment, on the other hand, Mr. Estrosiโ€™s development plan is completely delusional.

Indeed, the project involves demolishing a small building in good condition to replace it with a small public garden and destroying the existing large public garden Lieutenant Colonel Jeanpierre to substitute it with a large building of 109 housing units.

In the face of the absurdity of this project, which has not been subject to any consultation, an Association for the Protection of the public garden and a petition with over 600 local residents have emerged.

I am opposed to this senseless project, and I fully support the mobilization of the residents against this totally incoherent urbanistically, financially costly, and historically scandalous project.

Indeed, it is complete nonsense to want to over-concrete a neighborhood by densifying the housing while reducing to a bare minimum a public garden that serves as the green lung of the area.

Furthermore, it is a real financial waste in a period of economic crisis, to impose an expensive project that, furthermore, has no public utility.

Finally, it is an affront to the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Jeanpierre, a hero of the Foreign Legion and Airborne Troops, Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, who died in combat in 1958 at the age of 46 during the Algerian War, at the head of the 1st REP, as this garden holds a sacred character akin to the War Memorial at Quai Rauba Capeu or the Alsace Lorraine Garden on Boulevard Victor Hugo.

I therefore ask Mr. Estrosi to abandon this poorly conceived project and involve the local residents in a new project that combines coherence and rationality.

But for this, it would be necessary for the fool to not be assured of his certainties โ€ฆ

Master Jacques Peyrat,
Former Senator Mayor of Nice
