Tram line 2: the construction is progressing, the countdown has started

Latest News

Visit after visit (we’ve lost count but not the hope of reaching the end), this urban transport line that is being born reminds us of the title of a play by Tennessee Williams, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and also of a film directed by Elia Kazan in 1951.

And as Plato said in The Symposium, “one desires only what one lacks.”

Finally, we anxiously await the end of the visits and the inauguration. In fact, a tram is only appreciated when it’s running!

Yesterday, it was the visit to the Alsace-Lorraine station, one of the 4 underground stations, strategically located at the Gambetta/Victor Hugo intersection, in the heart of a dense neighborhood.

It is on this boulevard that some inconveniences due to the construction work have appeared, creating controversies.

“The most penalizing works for the local residents are now behind us,” said Christian Estrosi in a relaxed tone, as he monitors the tramway construction like a hawk.

Designed on three levels, this station will be able to serve more than 8,500 travelers per day, 850 at peak hours.

The station will be equipped with one of the artistic works recently announced.

Once the construction is complete, the surface garden will be redeveloped, replanted, and the marshals’ stele preserved and polished.

The station will be ready by mid-June 2019, and it will be part of the third section (Magnan-Jean Mรฉdecin) of the commissioning of line 2 (the first section will be Cadam/Magnan โ€“ inauguration on June 30, the second Cadam-Airport โ€“ opening in December. Following, Jean Mรฉdecin-Port Lympia in September 2019. Line 3 Airport-Saint-Isidore will be commissioned at the end of 2019).
