The metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur has just received European funding of 823,924 euros. This amount will be used to finance studies conducted for the project of tram line 5, planned to run from the Ariane district to downtown Nice and then to Trinité.
It is the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that granted this funding to the metropolis.
Tram line 5 will allow residents of the Ariane district better mobility towards the city and better access to the job market. Its operation is planned for 2026, and construction should start in 2024 for the section of the tram connecting Ariane to downtown Nice.
This development is part of the ambitions and objectives set by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, within the framework of his 2019/2025 Territorial Climate Energy Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Regarding the other part of the line, the 4.5 km connecting Pont Michel to La Trinité station, 18.96 million euros have been obtained from the State. The project was indeed selected as part of the “structuring public transport” call for projects.
