Tramway Line 2: Jacques Peyrat also brings out his cardboard project.

Latest News

We were good predictors in anticipating that this tramway file would still spill a lot of ink. The presentation of the socialist project in opposition to that of the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, has reignited the debate between supporters of the “surface” option and the “tunnelists.” However, there was a third project*, reminds us the former mayor Jacques Peyrat, who always keeps an eye on what’s happening in the city.
The people of Nice will be spoiled for choice!

After the first line 2 tramway project on the Promenade des Anglais by Mr. Estrosi, followed by his second partially underground project at an astronomical price, Mr. Allemand and the socialist group at the Municipal Council have in turn proposed another project entirely on the surface.

The women and men of Nice would therefore be led to choose between the two aforementioned projects, which have in common being very costly, since both are estimated at 750 million euros.

Except, there exists a third project that everyone tends to forget a bit too quickly, dismissing it as a loss and gain.

It is the project that I had submitted as Mayor of Nice, to the consultation of the women and men of Nice, and which had received a favorable opinion from the public inquiry.

This project, which predates those of Messrs. Estrosi and Allemand, had the advantage of costing less than 300 million euros and also of tracing its route on the current dedicated public transport route, which is already partially developed.

Therefore, in the interest of objectivity but also fairness, it’s not two projects but rather three projects that should be submitted to the appreciation of our fellow citizens.

Maître Jacques Peyrat, Mayor of Nice from 1995 to 2008.
