Three and a half years after his arrival in Nice, Mathieu Bodmer has been released by the club, six months before the end of his contract.
It is with mutual respect that the red and black club and the native of Evreux have put an end to their joint adventure. As OGC Nice was not able to guarantee the player the playing time he aspired to in the second half of the season, both parties decided to amicably end their relationship.
“I thank the entire club, the players, the various staff, and the supporters,” said Mathieu Bodmer.
Having arrived in Nice in the summer of 2013, the former number 24 quickly established himself as an important member of the main squad. During a challenging sporting period, he initially used his experience and talent to help keep the Aiglons in the elite league.
He then captained the Gym during the 2015/2016 season, finishing the campaign in 4th place in Ligue 1, and finally returned to European competition under the management of Lucien Favre. During his three and a half seasons spent in the French Riviera’s capital, he played 80 Ligue 1 matches and scored 5 goals.
“I hope the Gym will secure a Champions League spot by the end of the season. Best of luck to everyone and thank you very much!” concluded the midfielder.
He is likely to join Stade Malherbe de Caen, his home club. If the transfer happens, he will be reunited with Romain Genevois, his former central defense partner.
