The Cahuzac affair has caused unrest. While it is entirely normal for citizens to be outraged by such behavior, the “all corrupt” is an unfair and dangerous amalgam for democracy. On the other hand, it is statistically inevitable that there exist a few “black sheep” among the 500,000 elected officials as well as in all other professions.
For those (the elected officials) who represent others (the citizens), there is an additional duty, that of being exemplary!
To the outraged, it must be said, with an example of conduct, that one must not make the mistake of lumping everything together!
Furthermore, there is nothing secret since parliamentary allowances come from public money. For this to have educational value, positive examples are needed. For this reason, we applaud the initiative of Rudy Salles, UDI Deputy of Alpes-Maritimes and Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of tourism, who did not just talk but followed up with actions that do him honor.
“For my part, I respond very willingly even though the law does not require me to. That’s why I have decided to publish my asset declaration which I filed with the Commission for Financial Transparency in Political Life on May 1st, 2012,” explained the official who visibly has nothing to hide.
To continue and conclude: “I am making this effort in a spirit of transparency because I believe we must cleanse the disgrace that the Cahuzac affair unfairly casts on the political class.”
