Trappes: The Azur UMP officials speak of laxity. A few words too many?

Latest News

In the wake of the clashes that occurred in Trappes following the check of a veiled woman and the alleged assault of her husband on a police officer, Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti wasted no time in once again pointing a finger at the current government’s management.

While the facts are undoubtedly serious and we must not hide the reality of a tense situation, is it useful and responsible to add fuel to the fire?

Because is it always the fault of the current government, or is there a deeper reflection to be made and other conclusions to be drawn?

Besides, we don’t recall that when the right wing was in governmental power, certain suburbs were gardens of Eden, and some young people behaved like English baronets.

It’s fine to stigmatize, but be careful to choose the right causes… generally, the public opinion appreciates firefighters more than those who play with fire.

ciotti_estrosi.jpg “Nothing can excuse this violence, unprecedented and novel in the history of our country, against the symbols of the Republic, namely the national police,” explains the Deputy and President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, who advocates for a radical solution: “The Republic must be relentless against communal violence rather than concealed. This violence calls for severe sanctions. Therefore, all Republicans must react unanimously to these threats that undermine our national pact,” while criticizing the government’s inappropriate choices: “The recent opposition of the Government to my bill aiming to strengthen the application of the principle of secularism in businesses after the Babyloup nursery incident has undoubtedly constituted an encouragement for the development of communal practices in our country.”

The Deputy Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, points to “government laxity and a continuous refusal of authority and public force.” As a result for the Nice elected official, there is a catastrophic record in terms of security and justice for a government to which he delivers yet another warning: “The Government must now break out of its naïveté and usual laxity to guarantee citizens that the laws of the Republic are the same for all and throughout the territory of the Republic.”

Calm seemed to have returned to Trappes, which remains in shock, and many questions are still unanswered regarding the incident that triggered these violences and damages. On one side, the police claim violent behavior and strangulation from the veiled woman’s husband, while on the other side, an aggressive and violent check by the police is denounced. Nonetheless, while the triggering element is certainly important, can it explain the excesses that followed?
