Tribute Ceremony at Villa Masséna

Latest News

This Tuesday morning, at the Villa Masséna, the Municipal Tribute Ceremony for the victims of the July 14, 2016 attack took place. The presidents of the victims’ associations, along with Christian Estrosi and the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, each took the floor to pay tribute.

In the warm and verdant setting of the Villa Masséna, in a heavy atmosphere where the families of the 86 victims of the 2016 truck-ramming attack gathered to pay tribute, the members of the different associations wanted to pay tribute, notably through a speech.

The president of “Mémorial des Anges” began with these words: “the temptation to let go is grave and recurrent, but their desire is for us to rise again.”

The president of “Promenade des Anges” wishes to continue fighting for a museum-memorial to be created in Nice. The director of “Life For Nice” recited a text by Grand Corps Malade, including these words: “I have not found the words to explain the inexplicable.”

Christian Estrosi calls for vigilance, anticipation, and combat. “These are pains, sorrows that question the meaning of our lives.”

The Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez, quoted the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, who had visited Nice on July 14, 2017: “July 14, 1789, was a day of celebration, of freedom; July 14, 2016, reminded us of the price of this freedom,” said the President of the Republic.

To the tunes of Mozart and Chopin, the families of the 86 victims (with the enumeration of each name and the lighting of candles) then went on to lay white roses on the memorial.
