On May 27, 1943, in Paris, Jean Moulin (President of the Unified Movements of the Resistance and Delegate in France of General De Gaulle) brought together about fifteen representatives of internal resistance movements, parties, and unions to establish the National Council of the Resistance. The purpose was to support General De Gaulle against General Giraud, the main interlocutor of the Allies in North Africa, and also to make proposals for post-liberation plans on institutional, economic, social, and media aspects while preparing for national insurrection.
