Tribute to Jean Moulin on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the National Council of the Resistance

On May 27, 1943, in Paris, Jean Moulin (President of the United Movements of the Resistance and Delegate in France of General de Gaulle) gathered around fifteen representatives from the internal Resistance movements, political parties, and unions.

This meeting aimed to establish the National Council of the Resistance, intended to support General de Gaulle against General Giraud, the main interlocutor of the Allies in North Africa, and also to make proposals for the post-liberation period concerning institutional, economic, social, and media plans while preparing for the national uprising.

For several years, associations stemming from the internal Resistance have been campaigning for May 27, 1943, to be considered, like June 18, 1940, as one of the emblematic dates of the French Resistance and to be recognized in the official commemorative calendar.
