Friday, November 11, 2011 from 9 AM to 6 PM – Place Pierre Gautier – Nice
As part of the events celebrating the 93rd anniversary of the Armistice of the Great War, the City of Nice invites you to experience, in full scale, the memory of a now bygone era with the installation of a reconstructed World War I encampment.
In this encampment set up at Place Pierre Gautier, you will be able to discover a period field kitchen where hot drinks will be served, a tent with an infirmary, a tent for the headquarters, and a phonograph playing music from the period. Around sixty extras will also don period costumes and uniforms: cavalrymen with their horses, “Poilus” in blue uniforms, “piou” in red uniforms, Spahis, nurses, a General, a blacksmith, a cobbler…
A true trip back in time serving the memory of our History, made possible by the CCE (Epoch Commemoration Committee) association.
This tribute is part of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Repatriation of the French from Algeria, which will take place in 2012 in Nice and will be celebrated throughout the year with conferences, theatrical performances, and specific film programming…
