Tribute to the Victims of July 14th: Remembrance and National Unity

Latest News

Franรงois Hollande, President of the Republic, presided over a ceremony yesterday to pay tribute to the victims of the Nice attack on July 14th, on the Castle Hill near Old Nice.

A poignant tribute, attended by more than a thousand victims and their relatives, and politicians who set aside controversies on this day of remembrance.

Cindy Pellegrini, whose family was decimated on July 14th, spoke on behalf of all the victims’ families. A moving text read with emotion.

“The victims of this barbarity did not all have the same origin, the same background, the same skin color, the same religion, but they are united today by misfortune,” added the Head of State.

He mentioned the brotherhood between religions, “so important at this moment.”

The message is clear: we must fight against amalgamations and prejudices. Convey a message of peace and compassion.

This is what France is, and must be: secularism but also tolerance, freedom, and equality that create fraternity.

Should we remind ourselves that it all started on July 14th, 1789?
