Tribute to Turrin and Grassi, victims of the Nazis during World War II

Latest News

Every year, at nightfall, the City of Nice pays tribute to Torrin and Grassi, two communist activists who were arrested and hanged by the Nazis on July 7, 1944, at the entrance to Place Masséna.

Thus, on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 9:00 PM, François Rabut, the City Councilor responsible for Veterans Affairs, will go to the corner of Avenue Jean Médecin and the streets of Hôtel des Postes and de la Liberté in Nice to lay wreaths in memory of these two martyrs.

At this location, where thousands of Nice residents now pass by, the bodies of Torrin and Grassi were left hanging from the gallows, serving as an “example” and reminding the population of that time that the Nazis would stop at no atrocity to dominate.

This tribute is an opportunity to remind all generations of past events, but also to prevent future occurrences by rallying to defend human dignity and peace.
