We thought this disease was buried in memories, but no fewer than three cases of tuberculosis have been detected at Sainte Hรฉlรจne School in Nice among three children from the same family.
A thorough check will therefore be carried out at the start of the school year with the implementation of an anti-contagion plan to ensure that the other students at the school do not pose a risk of infection. A series of examinations including a chest X-ray and tuberculin tests will help eliminate any risk of spreading this disease.
Meanwhile, an investigation initiated by the General Council, the authority responsible for the prevention and control of tuberculosis, will be launched to determine the reasons for the reemergence of this disease, despite the vaccine being mandatory for entry into nursery or school.
The general symptoms of this infectious disease, which only humans can contract, include high fever, coughing, weight loss, and night sweats. Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air, by exposure to germs present in the saliva and pulmonary secretions (sputum) of infected individuals. Not all infected persons will develop the disease. In fact, about 90% of infected individuals remain so throughout their lives without showing symptoms.
