Twinning: Hosting Armenian students and German high school students for internships in Nice

Rudy Salles, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Tourism and International Relations, and Annie Kassighian, Municipal Councilor in charge of Civil Status and Population Services, will meet at the Main City Hall on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at 10 a.m., with four students from the French University of Armenia (UFAR) in Yerevan who will be staying in Nice for a month. They will be undertaking their undergraduate internships in Management and Law at institutions in Nice, thanks to the support of the SOS Armenia Association and the Armenian Community Council of the Cรดte dโ€™Azur.

As part of their internships, the four Armenian students will be welcomed into companies in the real estate, sales sectors, and in territorial administration. Training in real estate professions is particularly relevant for the urban development in Armenia, which is modernizing significantly. Furthermore, tourism is booming there, making the construction sector very dynamic.

The French University of Armenia is the only university in Armenia that issues degrees in law, management, and commerce that are valid in both France and Armenia. UFAR is also the largest French university outside of the national territory. Armenia is known as a country particularly fond of French culture and increasingly Francophone, which led to its membership in the International Organization of La Francophonie in 2008.

This meeting, which will take place in the presence of personalities from the Armenian community in Nice, highlights the City of Nice’s involvement in developing cooperative and solidarity relations with the City of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, following the twinning pact that has united the two cities since 2007. Bilateral exchanges in education, Francophonie, higher education, tourism, and heritage promotion are among the major focuses of decentralized cooperation between the two cities.

Rudy Salles, Deputy Mayor of Nice in charge of Tourism and International Relations, and Lauriano Azinheirina, Deputy in charge of Education and Youth, will meet at the Main City Hall on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at noon with a group of German high school students from the Willstรคtter Gymnasium in Nuremberg, accompanied by their counterparts from the Thierry Maulnier High School in Nice. This is part of the continuation of the language exchange between the two institutions, initiated by the City of Nice in 2010.

The high school students, aged 15 to 16, are in their sophomore year. The Thierry Maulnier High School in Nice is a vocational school specializing in teaching chemistry professions. The Willstรคtter High School in Nuremberg (named after the famous chemist and Nobel Prize winner Richard Willstรคtter) is a scientific high school.

Nice and Nuremberg have been connected by relations of friendship, fraternity, and concrete exchanges for many years. This twinning with Franconia’s capital is the oldest twinning of the City of Nice (signed on October 20, 1954).

The friendship that unites the two cities, fostered by the active participation of Nice and Nuremberg citizens in enhancing and driving these relations, is expressed in many areas: education, youth exchanges, culture, art, music, sport, tourism, traditions, history, and memory.

The Mayor of Nice attaches particular importance to this twinning, as reiterated in November 2010 during his trip to Nuremberg, leading a significant delegation from Nice on the occasion of the inauguration of the Nuremberg Trials Memorial, dedicated to Allied Justice following the Second World War.
