As part of the Nice-Houston twinning, Rudy Salles, representing Christian Estrosi, is welcoming a trade delegation from the Texan city from September 29 to October 2, 2011.
This delegation will be composed of Senator Rodney Ellis, Jeff Moseley, President of the Greater Houston Partnership, accompanied by specialists from various fields: the banking sector, sustainable development, and the economy.
The twinning between Houston and Nice dates back to 1973 and has experienced a new momentum since 2010, driven by the Houston-Nice Twinning Committee at the French-American Chamber of Commerce, which has strengthened the ties between the two cities.
Celebrations such as the Epiphany party with the “Galette des Rois” at the Houston City Hall, the “Nice Carnival” cocktail that took place in March 2010 for the launch of the “Month of Francophonie” in Houston, and the study trip at the end of May 2010 to the Nice region by 13 students from Rice University with their French professor, received at the Nice City Hall, all mark this renewed spirit.
The Nice-Houston twinning is rich in projects. A scientific partnership between the University Hospital of Nice (and by extension, the Antoine Lacassagne Cancer Research Center) and the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, specializing in oncology, is emerging.
A cultural partnership between the Nice Opera and the grand Houston Opera is also in the works.
Furthermore, the idea of organizing student exchanges modeled on a week of training and learning in the host city is taking shape.
Finally, the two cities are nurturing the project of developing a working relationship in the fields of urban planning and architecture.
