Yesterday, late in the afternoon, a violent accident occurred on the departmental road 6202.
This Tuesday, August 31, at 5:30 PM, an accident took place between a motorist and a group of motorcyclists. The accident occurred on the RD 6202, 2 kilometers before Puget-Thรฉniers, in the Nice-Digne direction.
A motorist collided with a group of 4 firefighters from Monaco out on a motorcycle ride.
A civil security helicopter and about twenty firefighters were called to evacuate the injured. During the intervention, the railway traffic of the Provence railways was interrupted, as well as road traffic.
Despite the quick arrival of rescue services at the accident scene, a 42-year-old sergeant lost his life on impact.
Colonel Norbert Fassiaux, head of the Monaco Fire Department, also announced that another Monรฉgasque firefighter, 22 years old, was taken in critical condition. He passed away during the night from his injuries.
The other two firefighters were also injured, but less seriously; they are currently hospitalized and will receive psychological follow-up.

Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, president of the departmental council and president of SDIS 06, reacted on Twitter: “I learn, with great sadness and concern, about the accident that took place on the RD 6202 near Puget-Thรฉniers. This accident involves firefighters from SDIS 06 and Monaco. My thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. Courage to all our rescue workers on site.”
The Monรฉgasque government also published a message on Facebook expressing “its great emotion”:
In the morning, the State Minister, Pierre Dartout, and officials from the princely government will visit the Monaco fire station to offer their support to the firefighters.
The investigation by the Monรฉgasque gendarmerie to understand the circumstances of the accident began yesterday. This morning, the motorist who collided with the motorcyclists was placed in custody at the gendarmerie company’s premises. He is expected to be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter due to a breach of duty of care.
