The Municipality of Nice made this decision on Monday afternoon.
The beaches of Centenaire and Beau Rivage have been closed to swimming by the Nice city council due to traces of hydrocarbon pollution.
According to Nice-Matin, a suspicious slick was detected at the mouth of the Paillon on Monday, at the end of the day. Stretching 100 meters long and 10 meters wide, it moved to about thirty meters from the shore.
As a result, the Nice city hall urgently issued an order banning swimming at the public beaches of Beau Rivage and Centenaire. The prohibition zone could be extended depending on the movement of the slick and the currents.
Yesterday, samples were taken to determine the source of this pollution. For the time being, swimming is still prohibited at the two beaches.
