The polls are still not favorable to the outgoing President, so it was necessary to boost the morale of the troops and motivate the supporters before the final sprint.
Indeed, after the Easter weekend, only two weeks remained before the first round of voting.
While Rudy Salles and Eric Ciotti limited themselves to unwavering support, the President of the General Council displayed his optimism, saying “I can tell you that Nicolas Sarkozy will win. First, because he is the best. Then because the future of France demands it.” Christian Estrosi’s speech was a plea to discredit the socialist candidate and to ensure that Nicolas Sarkozy is “the best” to defend his record and reforms.
In the style of a seasoned speaker, he praised “a track record, a vision, a project,” the reasons, according to him, to vote for Sarkozy, “President of all the French.”
This allowed the public to rally around the positive phrases, finishing with a collective “Long live France, Long live the Republic, Long live Nicolas Sarkozy.”
The audience at the Palais de la Méditerranée had already made their choice, the future president can only be ‘NS’ as stated by the badge that many supporters displayed on the lapel of their jackets.
One of the most enthusiastic even claimed: “Nicolas Sarkozy is of the same stature as General De Gaulle!!!”
