Down for some, up for others. Why such a difference? The controversies continue…
In fact, this discrepancy is not new. For years, the statistics from these two organizations have differed significantly, both in the number of unemployed and in the trend of the curve.
The mystery is quickly solved: the two organizations calculate unemployment figures differently.
Pôle emploi: a public organization that provides monthly figures of job seekers registered at its agencies at the end of the month.
INSEE: the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies publishes the unemployment rate every quarter, derived from surveys and calculated according to the definition of the International Labour Organization (ILO). These are the only internationally recognized data.
The question is: why do we only consider one method of accounting as other countries do?
But how can we forget that there is always a “French exception.”
