The number of job seekers with no activity decreased by 0.4%, reaching 3.616 million people in the third quarter. Over a year, the decline is even more pronounced: –2.4%.
It decreased even more in the South-PACA region (-1.3%), and especially in the Alpes-Maritimes (-1.4%). 4,000 fewer people registered as unemployed in our region in the third quarter of 2019.
An encouraging performance, even though there are still nearly 314,000 appearing in Pôle emploi’s statistics.
Regarding job seekers in the Nice metropolitan area, they decreased to 34,500, which is a –3.6% drop over a year.
In the first half of 2019, the growth in total employment was particularly strong (+166,000), according to an Insee note published in early October.
In the second half, this dynamic is expected to slow down (+98,000) and according to INSEE’s forecasts, the unemployment rate would continue to decrease by around 0.1 point per quarter, dropping from 8.5% in the spring to 8.3% by the end of the year.
