Unemployment: decrease in September in the Alpes-Maritimes and at the national level

End of September, in metropolitan France, the number of category A job seekers (who are unemployed and required to look for a job) decreased by 23,800 compared to the previous month, a reduction of 0.7% over one month. It stands at 3,547,800. However, this represents an increase of 3.1% over one year.

Small improvement on the employment front in the region in September. In the Alpes-Maritimes, unemployment fell by 0.9%. Over one year, the increase is still 3.6%.

Regarding category A, by department, the number of job seekers varies in September 2015 compared to the end of August 2015 between -1.4% and -0.4% in PACA: Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (-0.5%), Hautes-Alpes (-0.4%), Alpes-Maritimes (-0.9%), Bouches-du-Rhône (-1.4%), Var (-0.4%) and Vaucluse (-0.8%).

From January to August, the number of unemployed people with no activity increased by 70,900 people. It is uncertain whether the September figures, which will be published this Monday, will mark a reversal of the trend.

The labor market in France is currently recovering. Nonetheless, the economy needs to create at least 100,000 jobs per year to absorb the increase in the active population.

It is only from this threshold that unemployment can finally decrease.
