Despite an increase in December (+26,100 people), the number of unemployed decreased by 107,400 people (-3.0%) in 2016, marking the first annual decline since 2007, before the financial crisis.
However, unemployment remains high, with 3.47 million people without activity (category A) in mainland France and 3.73 million in France as a whole.
Slight increase in unemployment in the Alpes-Maritimes in December, but a decrease over the year 2016
According to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Labor, the number of unemployed slightly increased in December in the Alpes-Maritimes compared to November 2016. There are 70,500 job seekers in category A (required to look for a job and without activity), which is an increase of 0.1%.
Over three months, this represents an increase of 1.8% in the department. Over a year, the decrease is 0.4%.
