Unemployment decreases in the last quarter of 2019 (-1.7%) and declines by 3.1% over a year
In mainland France, the number of job seekers in category A (without any activity) decreases by 1.7% (-55,700) during the last quarter of 2019, according to figures published by Pรดle emploi and Dares (the Directorate for Research, Studies, and Statistics), this Monday.
Over a year, the number of job seekers in category A falls by 3.1%.
In detail, the number of people registered with Pรดle emploi and required to look for a job (categories A, B, C) stands at 5,442,900, according to official figures. Among them, 3,308,800 are unemployed (category A), and 2,134,000 have a reduced activity (categories B, C).
With a broader scope, taking into account mainland France and the overseas territories (excluding Mayotte), the trend is the same: the number of job seekers stands at 3,553,700 for category A. It decreases by 1.7% over the quarter (-3.3% over a year). For categories A, B, C, this number is 5,740,200. It decreases by 1.6% this quarter and falls by 3% over a year.
Dares notes that “the decrease in the number of job seekers is very strong among those under 25 and more moderate among those aged 50 and over.”
