Unemployment: it’s a little better but we’re still far from reaching the target.

Reading numbers requires exceptional skill. Seeing the glass half-full and deciding whether it is half full or empty demands the ability to analyze, compare, and have perspective.

That’s why we hear or read so much nonsense from so-called experts or self-proclaimed ones.

In fact, the figures from Pôle Emploi published yesterday lend themselves to a double reading.

In the second quarter in France: 4,407,300 people were registered in category A, with an increase of 23.2%. For categories A, B, and C, this number stands at 6,115,600.

In June, it decreased sharply again over the month (-204,700) but remains at a high level (4,220,900). On the other hand, the number of job seekers who engaged in reduced activity during the month (categories B and C) continues to rise (+236,200).

As in May, where it had decreased by 3.3%, the change in the number of unemployed is mainly explained by the resumption of reduced activity by job seekers who had not worked at all in May, as noted by the Dares.

In conclusion, the economic recovery is beginning to bear fruit after the lockdown but not yet sufficiently to absorb the stock of unemployed individuals that accumulated during the confinement.
