The Université Côte d’Azur officially opened Amphitheater 0 this Monday on its Saint Jean d’Angély campus. The new facility aims to enrich the educational offer in Nice and strengthen the connection between the academic community and the regional industrial network.
The Saint Jean d’Angély campus, the academic heart of Nice, has a high occupancy rate for its lectures, conferences, and events. The Université Côte d’Azur has thus responded to a growing demand for accommodation capacity. Amphitheater 0, with a capacity of 94 seats, meets this specific need.
The new space has been developed in an area that was once the access to the campus square, closed since 2018 for safety reasons. The redevelopment has transformed this area into a bright, accessible room in harmony with the existing buildings. The choice to integrate the new amphitheater within the Nice campus is part of the university’s modernization strategy.
A room designed for teaching and innovation
Amphitheater 0 is designed to bring teachers and students closer together. It is equipped with a large projection screen connected via USB-C, proper sound system, ergonomic seating, and individual outlets.
Environmentally, the space incorporates solutions to limit energy consumption. It has a natural night ventilation system (night cooling). The materials used are Cradle to Cradle Silver certified, indicating a commitment to sustainability and eco-design. This design is geared towards efficiency and sobriety, aligned with regional challenges in environmental transition.
Jeanick Brisswalter, president of the Université Côte d’Azur, emphasizes the significance of this project: “With Amphitheater 0, we continue our commitment to providing our students and teachers with modern, comfortable, and sustainable learning and working conditions. This project perfectly illustrates how the apprenticeship tax, with the support of our partner companies, translates into tangible achievements serving young people and academic success.”
Funding built around local support
The total cost of the project amounts to just under one million euros. The institution contributed a grant of 400,000 €. The remaining funds come from the resources of the EUR Economy and Management. The partnership with companies from Nice and the region is highlighted by the list of project contributors: Silvera, SNEF, Clibat Aménagement, De Angelis Bat-Ir, Veralu Sem, Ineo Provence and Côte d’Azur, Merat Establishment, Axians, PCA South East, MDA, APAVE, as well as the Jean-Paul Gomis architecture firm.
This funding distribution highlights the role Nice plays in the university’s territorial development model. These local businesses contribute to the transformation of the city’s university infrastructure.
The inauguration of Amphitheater 0 is a concrete step for Université Côte d’Azur in its project of a renovated and enhanced Nice campus. For the students of Nice, it’s a new resource available for classes, symposiums, or associative events. For the teachers, it’s a more suitable environment for pedagogy, with modern tools.
Beyond the Saint Jean d’Angély campus, the university plays a structuring role in the Nice agglomeration. The institution’s territorial anchoring is an asset for fostering collaborations between the academic world and businesses on the Côte d’Azur. The inauguration highlights how much Université Côte d’Azur aspires to be a local driver of research, innovation, and training.
The opening of Amphitheater 0 comes as the university prepares for its 2025-2026 academic year. It aims to provide its components with more numerous, better adapted, and better integrated means within the urban framework of Nice. It also illustrates the role of the apprenticeship tax as a lever between the metropolis’s economic players and the local academic world’s needs.
