In the presence of Rudy Salles, Deputy, Deputy Mayor in charge of Tourism, International Relations, and Neighborhood Activities, Olivier Bettati, Deputy for the Niçois Hills, for the City of Nice, Luciano Barillaro, Consul General of Italy in Nice, Enrico Musella, President of the Committee of Italians Abroad in Nice, and Bruno Capaldi, representative at the General Council of Italians Abroad with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Italian community.

Also present will be Members of Parliament Laura Garavini, Gianni Farina, and Claudio Micheloni, elected for the European district at the Chamber of Deputies (National Assembly) of the Italian Republic.


The City of Nice and Italy maintain strong bonds of friendship, exemplified through the celebrations around the 150th anniversary of Italian unity taking place this year.

In this context, a star will be unveiled on the gates of Wilson Garden in Nice, honoring the journey and life of Sandro Pertini, partisan and former President of the Italian Republic.

This commemorative star is offered by the Committee of Italians Abroad in Nice.

Sandro Pertini was born on September 25, 1896, in Stella San Giovanni. This Italian politician, lawyer, and journalist died in 1990, in Rome.

He was the seventh President of the Italian Republic from 1978 to 1985.

An antifascist, he took refuge in Nice in the 1930s and managed to maintain very strong ties with the people of Nice until his death.

Besides the star commemorating the journey of this statesman committed to freedom, a philharmonic marching band will parade on Saturday, September 24, starting at 5 p.m., through the streets of Nice, from Place Masséna to Place Garibaldi, where a concert will take place at 6 p.m.
