This Friday, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, unveiled a commemorative plaque in honor of the memory of civilians, fighters, and auxiliaries of all faiths who died in Algeria after March 19, 1962, in the presence of Agnรจs Rampal, Deputy Delegate for Repatriates.

This plaque was affixed to the site of the Municipal House of Associations of Repatriates, 16 Bavastro Street in the port district of Nice, in the presence of presidents and members of more than thirty associations of veterans, repatriates, and Harkis.

This unveiling follows the commemoration of the Isly Street shooting on March 26, which resulted in over 64 victims, a week after the Evian Accords came into effect on March 19, 1962, a date marking the beginning of kidnappings and massacres of several thousand European civilians and tens of thousands of Harkis.

By thus paying tribute to these victims, Christian Estrosi, in agreement with the leaders and members of the associations present, acts in accordance with his refusal to participate in the commemorations on March 19, a date that the current government has decided to substitute for December 5 as the National Day of Remembrance for Civilian and Military Victims of the Algerian War and the Fights in Tunisia and Morocco.
