Urban Renewal Project: Launch of the “Prevention Battalions” in the Moulins and Ariane Neighborhoods

Nadia Hai, Minister in charge of Urban Affairs, will be in Nice this Friday for a progress update on the urban renewal project, which will help improve the quality of housing, facilities, and public spaces, recreate centrality within the neighborhood and open it up to neighboring districts, and promote social diversity.

A total of 308 million euros is invested in Nice as part of the New Urban Renewal Project (NPNRU), including 68.4 million euros in financial support from the National Agency for Urban Renewal (ANRU).

The minister will then launch the Prevention Battalions that will operate in the Moulins and Ariane neighborhoods.

The Prevention Battalions, a preventive measure decided within the framework of the Interministerial Committee of Cities chaired by Prime Minister Jean Castex, aim to engage with young people in the most troubled neighborhoods to reconnect them with society, particularly in terms of schooling, training, and employment, thus preventing acts of delinquency and violence.

600 educators and mediators will be mobilized in 47 identified neighborhoods according to several criteria: young population, degree of youth dropout, and level of socioeconomic difficulties of families.

In Nice, 20 specialized educators and mediators will be deployed as part of a comprehensive project combining specialized prevention and social mediation. The State is allocating nearly 400,000 euros to fund these positions.
