In the context of the GREEN Deal policy, the 2nd Departmental Festival dedicated to Astronomy in Valberg “AstroValberg” took place until Wednesday in the heart of France’s 3rd International Dark Sky Reserve.
Building on the success of its first edition last year, the Festival presented an even richer and more varied program.
The 2021 edition offered curious minds, amateurs, and experts a multitude of activities and events: 4 exhibitions; 8 lectures on Ursa Major and the solar system; 12 outdoor yoga sessions; and 12 night hikes.
Additionally, there were daily shows for adults on great astronomers and for children about wildlife and flora; 3 stargazing nights with telescopes at the altisurface; 28 planetarium sessions, workshops for children, and more.
For Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council and President of the Valberg Intercommunal Syndicate:
“The work of preservation and awareness is a territorial effort that we have been pursuing for over 40 years. Here, near Mont Mounier and the planet trail, at the heart of the International Dark Sky Reserve (IDSR) labeled in 2019 thanks to its ideal exposure and sky quality, I would like to reaffirm my and the Department’s commitment to going further in preserving our environment, at a time when the climate emergency is a reality.”
