Vandalism at Saint-Roch Church: An Unacceptable Act!

Latest News

The Church of Saint-Roch was the scene of a serious act of vandalism. Doors and tabernacles have been broken into. However, no religious items were stolen, according to the initial findings of the investigation. The building, in neoclassical style, is classified as a historical monument.

An investigation for burglary has been entrusted to the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Security. But one wonders how rational minds can conceive, even before carrying them out, acts of this kind!

Now, the facts are there and we just have to wait for the investigators to identify the perpetrators. Then, it will be up to the justice system to find an exemplary punishment! Because when it’s too much, it’s too much!

For the record: The Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, expressed yesterday, “The provision of all resources, notably video surveillance recordings, to the investigators to find, as soon as possible, the perpetrators of these unspeakable acts.”

Then it was the turn of Jacques Victor, general councilor for the Riquier/Saint-Roch canton, to express his astonishment and solidarity.

“I learned this morning (editor’s note: yesterday) that the Church of Saint-Roch was vandalized. I would first like to assure the Curate of the parish as well as Mgr. Andrรฉ Marceau, Bishop of Nice, of my complete solidarity in the face of an unacceptable act of vandalism, as well as the community of all the inhabitants attached to this place of worship. I hope that the authorities will put all means in place to find the perpetrators of this act so that they are brought before the justice system and receive an appropriate penalty. I cannot resign myself to the trivialization of acts as foolish as they are unworthy of our Republic.”
