Since the start of the 2020 Vendée Globe, Alexia Barrier has already demonstrated twice her commitment to research aimed at preserving and learning more about the Earth.
Off the coast of Prince Edward Island, TSE-4myplanet has once again committed to its fight, as its name indicates, for ecosystem preservation. This time, the Marseillaise deployed a float from the Argo network as part of a mission for the UNESCO IOC (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission) and the World Meteorological Organization.
The goal is to ensure a global ocean monitoring system through a satellite-linked probe and to provide users with a clearer understanding of seabed quality. It’s a deployment with both scientific and educational purposes, as a primary school class will have the opportunity to access simplified data to better understand the issues of ecology.
“I have been committed for 10 years with 4myplanet to ocean research, supporting scientists. It represents a global challenge for me, and I have really decided to get involved in every race where I bring instruments and install sensors on my racing boats. We are one-third of the Vendée Globe fleet contributing to scientific research, which is fantastic. It’s increasing every year,” rejoices Alexia, who has been very committed to her fight for the planet for many years.
This deployment off the Kerguelen Islands is also a way to provide important data in a still little-known area of the globe, lacking any analysis system. A beautiful action in favor of ocean protection while continuing her race, which should inspire more to come!
